Learning Whānau

TPPS is made up of 6 multi-age learning whānau.

Students can learn where they are currently at - this is indicated by readiness rather than age.  Our older Achievers (Tuakana) learn to recognise their strengths while guiding and supporting our younger Achievers (Teina). Our Teina provide fresh perspectives and everyone is exposed to a range of experience and expertise. There has been significant growth in awareness of others, empathy, tolerance, care and respect between Achievers since establishing this grouping in 2016.

Each Learning Whānau has tamariki, 2 or 3 Kaiako and a Learning Assistant.

Usually children stay in these Whānau to build trust and foster relationships between all learning partners - instead of starting again each year.  They spend 2-3 years in their juniors learning whānau (depending on how long they spend in the Curious Kiwis, 3 years in the seniors and 5 years in Ngākau Māhaki.)
